Projet présenté du 21 septembre au 3 décembre 2023 à l’hôpital psychiatrique de Cery (Lausanne).
En 2023, le service des affaires culturelles du Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois - VU.CH - m’a proposé une résidence de 6 mois dans l’enceinte de l’hôpital de Cery. De février à septembre, j’ai installé mon atelier de photographe proche des Ateliers de réhabilitation. Les bénéficiaires y participent à différentes activités artisanales, administratives ou artistiques encourageant socialisation et réinsertion. J’ai cherché une manière de tisser des liens et de faire se croiser ma pratique photographique aux ancrages sociologiques et biographiques, avec celles et ceux que je rencontrais.
Mes photographies se nourrissent depuis 20 ans du lien des images à la fabrique de soi. Je les vois comme des occasions de mettre en œuvre d’autres versions de notre propre identité plutôt que comme des jeux de réplication infinie. J’ai alors proposé de construire ensemble une cabane dans laquelle chaque personne pourrait venir me rencontrer pour répondre à une question : comment rêvez-vous votre vie future ? Un espace doux et comme en retrait, pour partager des rêves. J’ai remercié chaque visiteur·euse de la cabane par une photographie ou une vidéo qui serait comme une marque de cet instant partagé. Certain·e·s m'ont aussi confié une œuvre plastique en retour.
L'exposition est constituée de 24 récits librement retranscrits et d'une trentaine d’œuvres. L'approche presque documentaire – documenter le futur – se charge d’émotions : celles des bénéficiaires de ces ateliers qui ont accepté de me livrer leurs rêves; et les miennes, nourries des récits et des liens que j’ai pu tisser avec chacun·es des bénéficiaires et encadrant·e·s. Fantasques ou fantastiques, impossibles ou mélancoliques, ces images rappellent le processus même de la photographie : pouvoir représenter la réalité de façon équivoque, donner une forme aux méandres de la vie et de l'esprit. Je vois chacune comme un seuil, entre réalité et fiction, entre aujourd’hui et demain, entre la vie qui hante et celle qui fait rêver. Elles suggèrent que le futur reste le domaine de l’incertain autant celui de tous les possibles. Investir ce seuil, c’est peut-être une autre manière d’aller à la découverte de soi pour faire le pas suivant. Être « au seuil de », au seuil de la cabane, au seuil d’un lieu qu’on se bricole en rassemblant les forces qu’on a, ce serait l’idée d’un commencement, d’un nouveau départ.

Project presented from September 21 to December 3, 2023, at the psychiatric hospital of Cery (Lausanne).
In 2023, the cultural affairs department of the Vaudois University Hospital Center - VU.CH - offered me a 6-month residency within the Cery hospital compound. From February to September, I set up my photography studio near the Rehabilitation Workshops. Beneficiaries participate in various craft, administrative, or artistic activities promoting socialization and reintegration. I sought a way to weave connections and intersect my photographic practice with sociological and biographical anchoring, with those I met.
My photographs have been fed for 20 years by the link between images and the making of oneself. I see them as opportunities to implement other versions of our own identity rather than as games of infinite replication. I then suggested building a hut together where each person could come to meet me and answer a question: how do you dream of your future life? A gentle space, somewhat set back, to share dreams. I thanked each visitor to the hut with a photograph or a video that would be like a mark of that shared moment. Some also entrusted me with a plastic work in return.
The exhibition consists of 24 freely transcribed narratives and about thirty works. The almost documentary approach – documenting the future – is charged with emotions: those of the beneficiaries of these workshops who agreed to share their dreams with me; and mine, nourished by the stories and the connections I was able to establish with each of the beneficiaries and supervisors. Whimsical or fantastic, impossible or melancholic, these images recall the very process of photography: being able to represent reality in an ambiguous way, giving shape to the meanderings of life and the mind. I see each as a threshold, between reality and fiction, between today and tomorrow, between the haunting life and the dreamy life. They suggest that the future remains the realm of the uncertain as much as that of all possibilities. Investing this threshold might be another way to discover oneself to take the next step. Being "on the threshold of," at the entrance of the hut, on the verge of a place we makeshift by gathering the strength we have, would be the idea of a beginning, a fresh start.
